WHAT IS NLP?  (NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming)

NLP is the science, communication, psychology of human behavior which reveals patterns of thought for higher achievement.

Neuro -             Explores the relationship and interaction between our body and minds.

Linguistic -        Explores how we communicate and are communicated
with both verbally and non verbally.

Programming-   Refers to patterns and codes of reactions, behaviors, emotions and
                          habits. (Both conscious and unconscious)
which are our lifelong means of expression.

Originally founded by Dr John Grinder and Richard Bandler back in the 1970's. The purpose of NLP was to study, describe and transfer models of human excellence. It focuses on the patterns of human behavior which distinguish execellent performance from average performance in any human endeavour.

The difference between NLP and the therapy is that in therapy there is a tendency to dwell in the problem and constantly reflect on the problem creating more negative emotions and countless sessions on the couch and long term ongoing expenses.

This is where NLP differs.

With NLP you can adjust the emotional experience behind the problem either consciously or unconsciously which then allows you to focus on what you want to achieve and the processes required on how to get there.  You will also amplify your own current resourceful abilities from your past and adopt processes from mentors or individuals performing in areas you wish to improve in.

Lifetime Achievements main aim is to facilitate the process to influence change for you and to provide mental freedom to enable ongoing advancement.

More and more people are experiencing the benefits of NLP and enabling you to become more effective in your chosen field. In fact, NLP techniques and processes are now being used in a diverse range of areas including education, business and human resources, sport, personal development and heath.

Business

NLP techniques enhance a variety of business activities. They are often present in courses about selling, presenting and team-building. Other applications of NLP in business include, teaching people to communicate more effectively and persuasively, public speaking and presentations, detecting decision-making strategies in others, making employee training more effective by working on beliefs, practical tools for employees to achieve peak performance and boosting motivation by aligning work with values. Instant rapport.

Education
NLP provides a model of how we communicate with ourselves and others. NLP can used in teaching to improve the ability to impart information in ways that makes learning easier. For example, identifying natural learning styles, use of presuppositions and language patterns and eliciting states in learners that are congruent with learning.

Sport
NLP is used by sport coaches to aid their clients in reaching and maintaining peak performance. Interventions include modeling and learning successful strategies from leaders in sporting fields, setting performance goals and overcoming plateaus and blocks.

Health
NLP offers a cognitive model and practical tools that can help you improve the health of yourself and others. It is becoming widely accepted within mainstream healthcare that there is a link between our thoughts, behavior and health. NLP can help individuals lead more satisfying lives in a number of ways. This may include, helping individuals to change limiting beliefs, habits and behavior, facilitating people to manage states and emotions and helping individuals to find meaning in life by setting achievable well-formed goals.
In effect, NLP is a powerful change management tool that transforms the way people think and act to have the greatest impact both professionally and personally.  That’s why NLP is one of the most powerful skills used in business management, psychology, sales, sports coaching and all forms of development.

NLP and self-help
Everyone has all the resources they need to make positive changes in their life, so with a one on one NLP session, NLP techniques are used as a tool to facilitate these changes, leaving you to concentrate on what you are thinking, feeling and any other sensory observations. New patterns of behavior are established and the NLP techniques learned can be used in other situations. So YOU become your own expert. This reduces the potential for reliance which can be the case with other therapies.NLP Therapy can also be content free. This means the therapist can be effective without knowing about the problem in great detail. Clearly this is a major advantage of NLP over traditional therapies as people seeking therapy may be embarrassed about the idea of discussing personal issues one to one with a stranger. The very nature of NLP removes this hindrance.

NLP can be fast!
As well as being content free, experience shows that NLP also tends to be fast, typically resolving issues in several brief sessions, which will of course make it very cost effective and much cheaper than traditional ongoing therapies.

Emotional problems
NLP techniques provide new ways of dealing with emotional problems such as low self esteem, anxiety, lack of confidence, destructive relationship patterns, and are successful in effective bereavement counseling.

Fears and Phobias
Phobias such as spiders, heights, dogs, flying, water, lifts/elevators, social scenes etc can be overcome as there are many NLP phobia cures available depending on the subject and your personal circumstances. The same phobia cures are successfully used on fears, such as fear of failure, fear of public speaking, fear of examinations and fear of driving.

Increased performance
NLP can help improve performance, so making a good performance excellent and also improving the consistency of performance. It feels good to do well, and it feels VERY good to do well all the time. People perform at all levels, from the person who views golf as a hobby to the professional athlete. We all enjoy that feeling of knowing our game has improved, and for some high achievers that improvement is paramount to stay ahead.Achieving and maintaining good performance is essential at all levels including work and personal relationships. Performance is often judged by others. Having the clarity to notice this and listen to what others are telling you is an asset. NLP can help develop the skills needed for relationships that stay ahead.

Stress reduction and weight control for a healthier lifestyle
NLP has been successfully used with weight reduction and many other healthier lifestyle choices. There are clearly physical benefits from one on one sessions in coping with stress. When we struggle with problems we feel the effects of stress, especially when the problems are longstanding. Addressing the problem reduces the level of stress so therefore not only do we feel better emotionally, we feel physically better too.

Where does NLP fit into traditional psychology?

NLP is becoming increasing mainstream thanks in part to the television series of Derren Brown and Paul Mckenna. NLP has been described as the next generation of psychology.
Traditional Freudian psychology and psychotherapy requires a large commitment of time as the client tries to uncover unconscious processes which determine conscious behavior.
NLP has its roots in the field of behavioral science, developed by Pavlov, Skinner and Thorndike. It uses physiology and the unconscious mind to change thought processes and therefore behavior.
